Stranger Tourist
by Fares Zaitoon

A photography exhibition by Fares, exploring his reentry into the world of his friend Momo, intertwined with drugs and music. Over two weeks, Fares used various cameras to capture Momo’s room, creating a multi-faceted, textured portrayal. Each space in the exhibition offers a unique perspective, moving beyond simple documentation to build a layered, intimate portrait of Momo and their enduring friendship. This compelling approach invites viewers to delve deeper into the complexity and responsibility of capturing a friend’s world.
With this award, Fares exhibited his project at DARB11718 Center for Contemporary Art and Culture in Cairo, Egypt. The overwhelming reception of the exhibition, along with media mentions, serves as validation for Fares’ efforts and motivates him to persist in his ongoing work.
“The support from the award played a crucial role in realizing my project for building my first solo exhibition. It enabled me to execute my vision of engaging with people in the way I had envisioned. It serves as a validation of my efforts, especially following the reception of the associated scholarship. Witnessing the project reach a broader audience has been a powerful motivator, inspiring me to persist in my ongoing work.”
