Panoramics of Disaster
by Manuel Seoane

Manuel’s project centers on water scarcity in the Bolivian Andes, with a particular focus on Lake Titicaca. Situated at 3,800 meters above sea level between Bolivia and Peru, Titicaca is not only the world’s highest navigable lake but also a vital ecosystem supporting diverse species and over 3 million people. However, it faces escalating challenges from climate change and pollution, exacerbated by its high altitude and tropical location.
With this award, Manuel successfully transformed his project into an impactful open exhibition featured at La Paz’s photo fest. This platform provided a significant opportunity to reach a wide audience, sparking meaningful conversations about climate issues and the urgent need for environmental protection in the Andean region.
“It gave me the chance to show my research to a wider audience, reaching people that not always is aware of climate issues. By being exhibited in a public space in the very center of La Paz city, where more than hundreds of people walk by every hour, it represented a great success in audience reach. It also gives me great hope that climate issues are being taking more seriously and I am very happy to contribute to such fact.”
“I believe this award is a great way to empower photographers and give them means to work and produce meaningful stories, that help to denounce and create public conscience but also inspire other photographers to work in such stories.”
