No Man’s Land
by Mikkel Hørlyck

In Northwestern Bosnia, 10,000 refugees face brutal ‘pushbacks’ by 6,500 Croatian police officers. Mikkel’s powerful project captures their struggles, resilience, and desperate attempts to cross the border, known as ‘The Game.’ His work, which has earned widespread recognition, offers a raw, intimate look at this humanitarian crisis, leaving viewers to learn more.
With this award, Mikkel continued to expand on this project to document the journeys of other refugee communities. His works has since solidified his career as a conflict photojournalist, leading to multiple invitations to exhibit and talks.
“I have only received positive experiences since I received the award. My reportage with Doctors Without Borders on The Mediterranean Sea was a huge experience, and the material which came out of it was very strong. The photographs and GoPro videos have been published, exhibited and have become part of my lectures, and I have future plans with the project.”
