Challenge

In Singapore, social enterprises and non-profit organizations face significant challenges in fostering inclusive and empathetic workplaces. Limited resources often strain their ability to meet the demands of inclusivity in hiring practices, exacerbating stress and burnout among their teams. Leaders in these organizations play a crucial role in promoting healthy work environments, yet the pressures they face can compromise their decision-making and overall well-being.

To address these issues, there is a pressing need to integrate mental health training that supports self-care, emotional regulation, and internal support mechanisms. This holistic approach is essential as workplaces increasingly recognize the importance of nurturing empathetic and inclusive environments that enable teams to thrive amidst diverse social, economic, and financial stressors faced by vulnerable groups.

Approach

The Bettr Fellowship is a pilot initiative between ECCA and Bettr Lives that seeks to address these challenges through a structured approach based on the Six Seconds model of Emotional Intelligence. As a certified partner in Singapore, Bettr Lives integrates Six Seconds’ comprehensive individual, team, and organizational profiling tools into their programs.

The fellowship focuses on equipping leaders and middle management from social enterprises and non-profit organizations with leadership development training, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, personalized emotional development plans tailored to the organization’s needs, access to experienced mentors and coaches, and a supportive community network. Practical learning is enriched by real-life case studies, drawing on Bettr Group’s expertise in training and employing at-risk youth and single mothers, along with insights from their collaborative partners. This initiative aims to empower organizations to create resilient and supportive workplaces that enhance team performance and well-being, ultimately fostering sustainable social impact.
